Fisherman's Cottage with Parking - 100m from Sea
Beautiful period Fisherman's Cottage just a couple of minutes walk from the beaches, bars, restaurants, galleries, pubs and shops of the bustling old fishing village of St Mawes. Relax on the large sun deck with a glass of wine, looking out at the boats across the harbour. Or recline in the cosy cottage sitting room in front of the log burner, playing a selection of board games. 60mb wifi and parking space included, as are towels and bed linen.
Good to know
The great thing about Fisherman's Cottage is that its a really cosy, homely environment, tucked away on a quiet street; yet its practically bang in the middle of the lively seaside village of St Mawes, with pubs and restaurants just minutes away. Fisherman's Cottage has been owned by the same family since it was built, in the 1700s to accommodate local fishermen. It is, almost certainly, the only property in St Mawes that has never been bought or sold in its 250+ year history. We started renovating the cottage after our last tenant, a retired fisherman, moved on, creating a warm, comfortable modern interior, whilst retaining its original character and features. The front door opens on to a large bright sitting room area with loads of sofa space and a lovely log burner. There are a selection of board games and a TV, Blu-ray player and Amazon Fire TV Box (loaded with a Netflix subscription) tucked discretely away in the corner cupboard - just in case you're unlucky with the weather! To the rear of the sitting room is a kitchen and dining area. The kitchen is new and well equipped. There is dishwasher, fan oven, induction hobs, toaster, kettle, microwave and filter coffee machine. Through the kitchen is a small utility area with the washer/dryer which opens to the sun deck at the rear of the cottage and a downstairs loo. The sun deck is really the jewel of the cottage's crown. There's a sea view and a table for some al fresco dining and a BBQ for those lazy summer evenings. Upstairs, the large double bedroom is a decent size, with plenty of storage space. There is also a more compact double room - the bed here is only accessible on one side - and a twin bunk room at the rear of the cottage. The bathroom is bright and fresh and has a bath with a shower over..
House Rules
***Business only bookings until 16 February. During the current lockdown, in accordance with government regulations we will only be accepting business travellers, or those otherwise permitted to stay away from home. If your trip is on or after 16 February, please feel free to book, but if the lockdown is still in place, your trip will need to be cancelled (for a full refund of course). If you are unsure of your right to travel, please the UK Government's Corona Virus website. Unless you are in one of the (very few) groups of people allowed to travel.*** Respect your neighbours. The walls are thick, so you can make a lot of noise inside (when the windows are closed), but please keep the noise down outside, particularly on the sun deck. Please allow enough time to wash all crockery and pots and pans thoroughly before you check out. Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the cottage.
Other Details to Note
As any regular visitor to St Mawes will know - parking here is a very contentious issue! We do have a parking space by virtue of the fact that no one else can park outside the front of the cottage without either a) parking on our land, or b) blocking the road. Unfortunately, sometimes people choose to ignore the sign and park there anyway. There is little we can do if this happens, although we are looking into parking posts etc. The house manual includes tips for finding somewhere to park if this happens, and we will happily reimburse you for parking in St Mawes car park. Guests should be aware that the sleeping arrangements in the small double and bunk rooms are somewhat compact. The small double room is quite small - the bed is against the wall/window on one side and is only accessible from the right-hand side or at the bottom. The bunk room also isn't huge, but the room does benefit from clever use of space and has plenty of storage - and of course the beds are comfortable full sized singles.

Neighborhood
Fisherman's Cottage is brilliantly located in the heart of St Mawes. The sea/beach, The Rising Sun pub and Idle Rocks Hotel (boasting an excellent cocktail bar and restaurant!) are within 100 metres of the property. There are several very decent pubs and restaurants just a short walk away. An excellent mini-supermarket, Post Office, butcher, baker, pharmacy and fresh fish stall are within approximately 250 metres of the cottage. Lloyds Bank, Barclays bank (with ATM) and a small number of galleries, craft shops and clothing stores are all within a 5 minute walk. The famous St Mawes Castle, built by Henry VIII, with stunning views of Carrick Roads (the 3rd largest natural harbour in the world) is just a 10 minute walk from the cottage. There are some truly breathtaking coastal walks and views right on your doorstep. With or without a car, there are loads of fun things to do here. The coastline on the Roseland is, without doubt, the most stunning that the British Isles has to offer (not that I'm biased or anything!). The walks are amazing. But, if walking isn't your thing, St Mawes has some great restaurants and pubs and Falmouth (just a short ferry ride) is a charming seaside town with loads to offer. There's also watersports, golf courses, tennis courts, theme parks, gardens, boat trips, the Eden Project and many more exciting things to do in the area. Don't forget to check out the map at the bottom of this page where I have marked some local points of interest.
